For Professionals

What This Is

This page explains a complementary awareness option, Alerta Home, for families supporting a loved one who is living with dementia.

Dementia care specialists are often asked how families can stay informed between scheduled visits, or how to better understand when activity patterns may be changing without introducing intrusive technology.

Alerta Home is a passive awareness system designed to provide context about movements or activities, without cameras, recorders, or wearables.

Who This Is For

  • Individuals living with early to mid-stage dementia.
  • Individuals who live alone or who spend time alone during the day.
  • Families concerned about changes in routine or orientation.
  • Families prioritizing privacy, dignity, and autonomy.

When Families Typically Consider This

  • During the early to mid-stages of dementia.
  • When daily routines begin to appear less consistent.
  • When sleep–wake patterns start to shift.
  • When movement appears slower or less predictable, or when wandering becomes a concern.
  • When the person living with dementia resists visible technology or wearable devices.
